Keith Stoney

Attorney Keith Stoney is a veteran criminal defense attorney with more than 30 years of experience in criminal law. He has experience in nearly every facet of criminal law and has worked as a prosecutor, police officer, educator, judge, and attorney. Education

Mr. Stoney earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brigham Young University: a bachelor of arts degree in communication and his law degree. He was admitted to practice by the Utah State Bar in 1982, and he went on to teach several courses at BYU, including speech, debate, communications, and criminal law.

Experience

Mr. Stoney’s career in criminal law has reached into nearly every branch of the criminal justice system. He is a former police officer and also worked as a prosecutor for 18 years. He has done extensive work in education, including as a legal instructor at the Utah Police Academy and Utah Corrections Academy and as trainer for judges on search and seizure, domestic violence, laws of arrest, and rules of evidence. Mr. Stoney also taught Domestic Violence courses for Western Community Policing, and worked as a nationwide police officer instructor on DUI for the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.
